ABOUT THIS PROJECT

Made in collaboration with the Derry Film and Video Collective, this documentary looks at an instance of what became known as the British ‘shoot-to-kill policy’ in the North of Ireland where suspected members of the IRA were shot dead. The film explores the experience of two families, one losing two sons, the other one. The young men (one of whom was still at school) were Republicans. We specifically chose young militants (rather than innocent bystanders) to explore why youth in the North were choosing armed struggle. The film also looks at media representation of the Irish struggle.

This film was part of the Counterterror series that examined how the term “terrorism” was used to criminalise political dissent in different communities.
