Wake is an experimental film that explores representations of New Zealand as a “promised land” comparing colonial paintings intended to encourage migration to the country in the 1850s, with filmed images shot by the filmmaker’s English father just over a century later as he explored where to settle his young family.
The DVD is available with a monograph Memory, Landscape, Dad and Me, published by Victoria University Publications (Wellington) which locates the film theories of post-colonialism and representation.
